Writing a recount

We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them. We used Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.

On Tuesday Room 4 went to the Botanical Gardens. Me and Isabel and Madeleine sat in an egg. We made a worm farm and we saw tadpoles. We made a pattern with the leaves. We went in a scary forest and we went in a bus. We smelt the beautiful flowers. By Tara.

Making pizza

Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas. 

I Am Learning To Add Details To My Writing

I am learning to add details to my writing.  

I can write when something happened.

"I like to write.  I can use the blue word card to help me because it has the days of the week on it."

I Am Learning To Tell The Time

We have made clocks at school. 

We are learning to tell o'clock and half past times using our clocks.

"I have dinner at six o'clock."

Our Big Book Activity - The Snake Cake

We have been reading the big book 'The Snake Cake' and decided that we would make a snake cake  too.  We spread pink icing on the biscuits and stuck them together so they looked liked a snake.  

Then we put some blue icing on the top and M & M's too.  

Then we ate it.  It was delicious!

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

Reading Term 3

I Am Learning About Root Words.

I can find a root word and I can make more words using different endings - s, ing, ed.

"I can find lots of root words.  I can find them in my books.  I can find them on the wall.  I can find them on the word lists too. "

Writing Term 3

Writing Progressions 1P:
I am learning to

• add some detail to my writing
• choose words to make my writing more interesting

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I like to write about lot's of things.  I can use the word cards to help me find interesting words.  I can sound out interesting words and put a line underneath it."

I am learning to add and subtract numbers to 20.

"I can play Slide Addition with a buddy.  

Isabel was my buddy and it was a little bit tricky because you had to be fast."

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!

Reading Term 2

I am learning to identify question marks, exclamation marks, full stops, commas and capital letters.

"This is an exclamation mark.  An exclamation mark means somebody's shouting." Tara

I am learning to make groups within 5.

I can draw a picture about my story to help me when I am writing.

Reading Year 1

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

  I can look at the first letter and make the sound.  I can look at the picture to help me too.

"When I get stuck I can look at the first letter and make the sound.  I can ask Mrs Koroa to help me.  I can ask my mum to help me.  I like to read my books."  Tara

Maths Term 1

I am learning to match the number, the word and groups together from 1 to 10.

" It was tricky when I did this the first time because I couldn't read the word number.  

I can use the chart to help me find the word number.  I like doing maths on the computer." Tara

Term 1 Water Safety

We have been learning to be safe around the water.

"I can use the ladder to get in the pool safely." Tara

Butterfly Art

We used Kid Pix to create our backgrounds.  

We used black marker pen and dye to colour in our butterflies.
