Making a greenhouse

Last week on Monday Room 18 made a greenhouse. First we got given a plastic bag and four cotton balls.We wet  a piece of paper towel and the cotton balls. Then we placed the paper towel folded in
the plastic bag and the cotton balls then all of us got given our pinto beans! We placed our beans
in our bag. Now we make our greenhouse! First we got an A4 piece of paper. We traced a square,
then we drew the dome or the triangle roof. Miss Lister cut out everything so we can decorate it.
When we were finished we put it on the window with blue tack.

Hibernation and Migration

I learnt that birds migrate. I didn't know that birds fly in a v formation.

Coins and notes

I was learning to add coins and notes. It was easy to count the notes. The coins were a bit hard
to add up. I now that the dollar sign goes first and the decimal point goes after the dollars.

Speed and agility

Yesterday we went to Youth Town . We learned about speed and agility. Speed is moving fast. Agility is turning, jumping and moving fast. We did a warm up first. There were hurdles, ladders and agility poles. How you play the warm up is you use your balls of your feet to get through the ladder. To get
over the hurdles you do big bunny hops. To get through the agility poles you move like crab. The
second game we played is cat and mouse. There are lots of mice and cats. The cats try to catch the mice. If the  mouse makes it the mice gets the points ... but if the cat tags you the cats get the points.
I felt great learning something new!

I was learning to add in different orders. It was really hard to add in the middle. It was easy to

add in the front. I like mathletics.

Bird nest

Today room 18 made a nest. We planed our design in our sketching books and then we went outside 

 to get leaves and twigs .We planed how to let the egg rest by building the nest.We labeled what we 

 were going to use like tissues, leaves and twigs.

Maori Language Week

It was maori language week. We did numbers from one to 20. It was not easy to remember everything.

Blackbird mask

This week is conservation week. We are learning how to take care of the birds from NZ.The sound of

the blackbird is "chirp chirp".They are introduced. The predators are cats, rats and stoats. 

Spelling: the "oo" sound

The easy one was the 'oo' because I knew them before. The hard one was the 'oul' sound because it is hard to remember it.

Matariki Chalk Stars

On Friday some people made Matariki stars.We folded the star so it was popping out. We chose two colours and smudged it.

Writing: Explanation

Why do we walk in orderly lines with buddies on a walking school bus? We walk with a buddy because we stay safe when we are on a road.We stay with a buddy because we can stay together and we can help each other.



I was learning to write an explanation. I know to use my ideas from the plan. It was easy to think of ideas about each topic.

I was learning to make text to self connections.I learnt how to make a connection with the story. I make connections by finding something in the story and saying a connection I have.

Baking ANZAC biscuits.

On Friday we made ANZAC biscuits with ingredients to go in the big bowl in front of us.I got to hold the bowl two times!We stirred all at once with a big mixing spoon.It tasted really good.

My principal's award

Today it was a very exiting day for me because I got a principal's award.I got it because I tried to my best to get it.

Today I was the host for the Y3/4 assembly. I was happy to be chosen to do it. I was really excited and I think I dd really well.

Reflection: Our class treaty relates to the EPS values.The 3 R's are respect, responsibity and resilence. We promised to follow these to help us learn this year.

I have been learning to float on my own in starfish by lifting my chest up.I am also learning to keep my chin up.

I have been leaning to float on my back.I think I am getting better.
