Summarising information

I am learning to summarise information from a fiction book.

There was once a small village, perched on the top of a hill. At the bottom of the hill was a thick, dark forest. A dragon lived in the forest and would roar and keep everyone awake at night. The villagers were tired of it so they sent a girl to find the dragon. They played a chasing game.

It can be a bit tricky because I forget to tell Mrs Mason a little bit about the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Balancing on the beam

We are learning how to balance on a beam in Gymnastics. We have to carefully climb on the beam and stand up. We have to  put our aeroplanes arms out to help us balance. We then have to walk all the way to the other side. Sometimes we have to turn and go back too. It can be scary sometimes because the beam wobbles when we walk on it. We are all getting better at balancing on the beam!

Using other punctuation

I am learning when to use other punctuation
e.g. commaexclamation markquestion markapostrophe, speech marks

Guess what is going to happen in 31 days? It's my birthday! Next month is going to be my birthday! Everyone be able to sing "Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you!"

I am proud of myself because I know how to use a lot of punctuation. I need to work on remembering where to put it all by myself because sometimes I forget.

Making connections

I am learning to make connections between the book and my own experiences to say what I think.

I am good at making connections. I like sharing my experiences. I have a lot to share so I think I could do it for every book!

Adding details

I am learning to add some detail to my writing.

Walle-E the Whale

One day in the big blue sea there was a whale called Wall-E. He had no friends at all. But he was happy. He had no distractions and it was nice and calm. But one day he found one little fish. He was more happy. He went to talk to her. She said that they could be friends.

I like adding detail to my story. Sometimes I forget to but then I remember to look at my plan and then it is easy again.

St John Visit

Mac from St John came to talk to the children at Elm Park School about safety and first Aid. He brought his mini ambulance Amby along with him. Mac taught Room 11 about who to call when there is an emergency. We looked at different pictures and had to decide if we needed to call for the police, the firemen or an ambulance. We had actions that we had to do to show Mac that we knew who to call!

Shape Monster

I am learning to name and describe plane shapes.

We are learning about Geometry in Room 11. We are learning to name plane shapes and to say how many sides and corners the shape has. We created shape monsters and wrote a description about them.

My shape monster is a rectangle. It was easy to remember how many sides and corners there are on a triangle.

Tidy Numbers

I am learning to use tidy numbers to solve addition problems.

I like using tidy numbers. I ask Mrs Mason to give me tidy number problems all the time. Sometimes I get mixed up but I am still learning how to do it.

Talking about the plot

The Bumble Bee group is learning to talk about the plot and to remember who the characters are in the story.

I am good at remembering the characters and the problem. I am also good at thinking about how to solve the problem.

Youthtown

Room 11 has been going to Youthtown this term. We have been learning how to throw a ball at a target. We learned that you need to have your one arm in an L shape ready to throw the ball. The other arm needs to be pointing at the target. Then we have to do a power throw and try to hit the target. Sometimes we hit the cones and sometimes the ball goes in a different direction.

Word Cloud

I am learning to use describing words in my writing.

I like using describing words. It was fun and easy. I like the Roly-Poly bird. He is so colourful.

Maths Term One

I am learning to solve simple addition problems up to 20.

I like adding because it helps me with my maths.

Reading Term One

I am learning to read with fluency and expression.

I like reading because I like learning new things.

Writing Term One

On Saturday me and my sister went to a water park. It was fun! There were bowls you could ride. Put your head in. The bowls twisted and turned.

I am learning to underline my try words.

I like writing because I can tell people my stories. I find it tricky to sound out the words properly and underline them.

Self-Portrait

I have been learning how to draw my self-portrait. First Mrs Scott came to show us how to sketch our face. We sketched our face shape first. Then we drew our guidelines to help us remember where our eyes, nose, mouth and ears went. We practised using a whispering pencil and a shouting pencil. Our first sketch looked a bit funny so we tried again. This time we used a photo of us to help us. We had to start all over again! Miss Radue then helped us rub out all the whispering pencil guidelines and photocopied our sketches so they were bigger. We had to go around our sketch with vivid and then we used pastel to colour in our self-portraits. It was hard work but we had a lot of fun!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. On my blog you will see my work. I hope you enjoy it. Please leave me a comment when you have finished looking at my learning.
